Chef Izu’s famed Mediterran­ean cuisine to be served at Mandarin Oriental from July 15-20

THIS summer, Mandarin Oriental, Doha will host Celebrity Chef Izu Ani for a menu of Mediterran­ean specialtie­s at his eponymous restaurant I U, from Thursday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 20. The experience includes a six-course menu featuring Mediterran­ean avors with inventive twists inspired by Chef Izu’s love of travel.

Chef Izu’s philosophy is to serve honest, simple, and delicious food made with handpicked ingredient­s. The awardwinni­ng I U Restaurant, which was named Best Mediterran­ean Restaurant 2021 by Fact Dining Awards, celebrates a fusion of modern and traditiona­l Mediterran­ean cuisine dishes burst with delicate layers of avor and are prepared with the finest ingredient­s.

Chef Izu’s passion for the kitchen began in his home economics classes at school as he grew up in London. Chef Izu traveled to France after his time in London to experience Nouvelle cuisine, which in uenced his culinary style and encouraged his air for French avours.

Chef Izu is regarded as one of the region’s upcoming food pioneers, having worked in renowned restaurant­s such as the two-Michelin-starred La Bastide Saint Antoine and the world-renowned, three-Michelin-starred Auberge de L’Ill. Chef Izu returned to Spain after spending time in France. At restaurant­s such as Arzak, Mugaritz, and Akelarre, he gained invaluable knowledge and skills in a variety of culinary fields.

During this time, Chef Izu was given the opportunit­y to relocate to Dubai and work at the French restaurant La Petite Maison. Although his style is firmly rooted in French cooking tradition, the Chef’s use of innovative avours and techniques is often described as modern Mediterran­ean, resulting in exquisitel­y presented and unique dishes.

I U’s menu will include new and exclusive dishes such as foie gras terrine with pear chutney and toasted brioche, seared tuna carpaccio with truf e dressing, grilled king prawns with chilli butter, and Wagyu beef cheek with sunchoke pur e during Chef Izu’s residency. Desserts will include a light and refreshing Mille-feuille, Pistachio ice cream with fresh raspberrie­s, and Chocolate truf es with Chef Izu’s very own BOON coffee blend.

Dinner is served at 6:30pm and 9pm, with a six-course menu priced at QAR 450. Seating is limited to 21 people on the I Us Restaurant mezzanine oor and is only available from Thursday, July 15 to Tuesday, July 20.
