Roy rocks as Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Royal Challengers Bangalore

-

BOTTOM-PLACED Sunrisers Hyderabad won their third game of this year’s Indian Premier League with a four-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Jason Roy hit 44 off 38 balls as Sunrisers posted 141from 20 overs.

Needing 13 from the final over in Abu Dhabi, RCB fell short of the target despite Glenn Maxwell’s 25-ball 40.

irat Kohli’s side remain third in the table and are now unlikely to overtake secondplaced Chennai Super Kings due to an inferior net run rate.

A top-two finish means teams have two opportunities to qualify for the final, which is on 15 October.

Already guaranteed to finish the season at the foot of the table, Sunrisers had little to play for except pride, giving Roy an opportunity to take the shackles off and cement his place in the side.

The opener batted for 15 overs, scoring five boundaries on a tricky surface.

Despite his significant contribution, Roy also rode his luck at times, particularly in the ninth over - bowled by spinner Shahbaz Ahmed when he could have been dismissed three times.

Roy miscued a big swing which somehow landed safely, two balls later he would have been run out had Kohli’s throw hit the stumps and then the following delivery he top-edged it inches short of third man.

In the eleventh over, he was deceived by Harshal Patel’s slower ball and, again, the ball landed between fielders.

Roy was eventually dismissed after he drilled the ball back to seamer Daniel Christian (2-14) and was caught and bowled.

Chasing 142, RCB had a horror start as their captain irat Kohli, and Dan Christian were dismissed in the first powerplay.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapped Kohli in the very first over of the innings while Christian was removed by Siddarth Kaul in the 4th over. After the first six overs, the RCB’s score read 3 /2.

Wickets kept falling for RCB as Umran Malik struck for the very first time in IPL as he sent back KS Bharat in the th over.

Devdutt Padikkal and Glenn Maxwell then joined forces to rebuild the RCB’s ship.

The duo managed to propel RCB to 92/3 after 14 overs. However in the 15th over, a brilliant direct hit from Kane Williamson saw dangerouslooking Glenn Maxwell walking back to the pavilion. Maxwell scored a brilliant 40 off 25 balls.

Devdutt Padikkal was removed by Rashid Khan in the 1 th over. With 18 required off 12, Jason Holder dismissed Shahbaz Ahmed in the penultimate over as RCB was just able to gather 5 runs in that over.

With George Garton and AB de illiers on the pitch, RCB required 13 in the last over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar made no mistake as he conceded just 8 runs in the last over as SRH defeated RCB. Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 141/7 (Jason Roy Kane 44, Kane Williamson 31; Harshal Patel 3-33) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore 137/6 (Devdutt Padikkal 41, Glenn Maxwell 40; Umran Malik 1-21).
