Aster launches series of activities to mark World Patient Safety Day & 7th Qatar Patient Safety Week
ASTER DM Healthcare, the largest private healthcare network in Qatar, conducted a series of awareness activities to mark World Safety Day and th Qatar Patient Safety Week (QPSW).
The theme selected for the year 2021 is ‘Safe maternal and newborn care’ due to the significant burden of risks and harm women and newborns are exposed to when receiving unsafe care, particularly during childbirth. The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) supports the theme towards Maternal and Newborn Care showing solidarity with the World Patient Safety Day 2021 celebrations.
World Patient Safety Day is an international awareness day initiated by the World Health Organization to enhance global understanding of patient safety, increase public engagement in the safety of healthcare and promote global actions to enhance patient safety and reduce patient harm. The QPSW is a national initiative organised by the MoPH and the objective is to promote the concept of patient safety at the national level in collaboration with all stakeholders.
Aster Hospital launched ‘Pink Parking’, a unique concept to reserve dedicated parking slots near the hospital entrance for expectant mothers. The official launch of Pink Parking slots at Aster Hospital Doha was jointly done by David Boucher, Group Chief of Service Excellence-Aster DM Healthcare Dr Manoj K Mohan, Consultant HOD of OBGyn Dr Hema Rajeev, Specialist- OBGyn and Dr Nousheen Mir, Specialist
OBGyn in the presence of Kapil Chib, Chief Operating Office-Aster DMH Qatar Dr Mahesh Patel, Head of Quality Assurance Sumeet Batra, Head of Marketing Regina Pinto, Head of Nursing Service and other officials.
To support the global campaign, Aster Hospital in Doha and all Aster Medical Centres were lighted upped in orange colour. Also, other activities were conducted to promote patient safety among caregivers and an online health awareness session was organised for expectant mothers on ‘Safe maternal and newborn care’.
Talking about the activities, Hema Rajeev said, “This years’ theme is very relevant as many of the expectant mothers are getting stressed by COVID-19 and related threats. Patient safety is a serious public health issue worldwide and there is a growing recognition that patient safety and the quality of their care constitute a very important dimension of universal health coverage.”
Kapil Chib stated that Aster Hospital and Medical Centres are working adhering to the Ministry of Public Health’s standards and clinical evidence-based guidelines for promoting maternal newborn safety.
Dr Manoj K Mohan stated, “Most of the harm to mothers and newborns is preventable through the provision of safe and quality care by skilled healthcare professionals working in supportive environments. We promote a safety campaign with the slogan ‘Act now for safe and respectful childbirth ’ with our stakeholders to accelerate actions necessary for ensuring safe and respectful childbirth.”
He further explained various policies and procedures practised at Aster Hospital and Medical Centres to ensure the safety of its patients and reiterated the commitment and dedication of doctors, nurses, and other staff members who are focused on providing 3 0 degrees safety to their patients as per the guidelines of the MoPH and World Health Organization.
