AMIR PATRONISES QU GRADUATION

Amir honours 126 outstanding graduates

- QNA

HIS Highness the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani patronised the graduation ceremony of the 44th batch (Class of 2021) of Qatar University’s (QU) male students at the university’s Sports and Events Complex on Monday.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, sheikhs and members of the university’s Board of Trustees, Vice-Presidents of the University and students’ parents.

During the ceremony, HH the Amir honored 126 outstanding graduates, while President of Qatar University (QU) handed over the certificates to 829 graduate students in various disciplines.

A documentary film was shown about QU’s achievements during the academic year 2020-2021, and the most prominent activities, programmes and research innovations in various fields, in addition to interviews with members of the university’s community, including graduates of the College of Medicine and faculty members, in which they talked about their academic achievements and research.

In a speech, QU President Dr Hassan Rashid Al Derham said, “While we are celebrating the 44th batch of Qatar University graduates, our beloved country is witnessing a comprehensive renaissance that would not have been achieved without the accumulation of the efforts exerted by its people and their standing behind its leaders.”

Qatar University had the honour to contribute to this comprehensive renaissance by preparing generations of over 57,000 graduates who have contributed to building the homeland, he added.

Dr Al Derham hailed Qatar’s first ever Shura Council elections, which are a constitutional entitlement that marks the beginning of a new era in the comprehensive renaissance of the State.

The QU president also praised the efforts of Qatar and its wise government in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic and the success of Qatar University in continuing to carry out its mission and roles while adhering to the precautionary measures.

Salman Fares Al Ahbabi delivered a speech on behalf of the graduates, in which he valued the vision of HH the Amir who secured the means of decent life and good education, stressing that HH’s wise and tireless care for education has instilled high morals and determination, as well as love, loyalty and belonging for the homeland.

He also hailed the role of Qatar University, which is a lofty civilized edifice and a link between the ancient past and the bright present.

The graduation ceremony of the 44th batch (Class of 2021) of Qatar University’s students was held amid precautionary and preventive measures, to limit the spread of COVID-19.

A number of Qatar University graduates from the Class of 2021 express their joy on the occasion of their graduation, where they fulfil the greatest wish an academic hopes to achieve. The graduates thank all university members who supported them on this journey -- from management to professors and fellow students, all who encouraged them and assisted them as they revealed their aspirations for the future and the projects they aim to embark on in their academic, professional and personal life.

Ibrahim Khalid Al Samhari – Media: Print and Electronic Journalism

One of the most important achievements during my studies at Qatar University is receiving a degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, completing my bachelor degree and graduating in the field of my dreams, the field of media with a specialisation in print and electronic journalism. A diploma to me is a symbol of security and is personally very important to me, and now I have great momentum to continue my studies into graduate school. The feeling of graduating is indescribable because I have been patient for so long. I have received what I wished for and reached my goal, and that is to my family’s credit, as they were my greatest supporters after Allah (SWT). The words ‘thank you’ are not enough to show them my gratitude.

Ahmed Tareq Makki – Accounting and Auditing: College of Business and Economic

Even though I received the GPA I was aspiring for, which is 3.93, and graduated with first honors, my biggest achievement was being involved in a number of trainings related to my field and having part-time work and participating in leadership programmes, all of which are provided by Qatar University. Thankfully, I did not let any of this extracurricular work negatively affect my academic performance. I chose accounting as my major because I have a passion for numbers, not just mathematics, but the numbers themselves. I was also innately curious about financial markets and how companies can buy other companies, how people can trust companies in the stock market, and other similar dealings.

I look forward to completing the ACCA certification as a short-term goal to achieve my longterm ambition of becoming a partner in one of the top four financial and auditing companies. Following four years at QU, I can now say that it was not just a university, but a second home, not just a place to attend lectures but it also houses the QU Library where I spent a lot of time and it was my favorite place.

Ayman Mousa Al-Qidwa – Accounting/Finance

For me, every day at Qatar University is an achievement. Every day is an interesting journey, through the University buildings, between the seats and around the knowledge and expertise held by the faculty and staff. Being among them was in and of itself an achievement. Qatar University, the national university of the country, is one of the most distinguished universities in the Middle East region and which gives their graduates a great investment. Qatar University’s placement plays a big role in the respect of different sectors in Qatar. I have the greatest respect and admiration for my university and for my college.

Qatar University means everything to me. My father graduated in 1990, I graduated in 2020 and Allah (SWT) willing, my children will graduate from here as well. The university has a great reputation in Lebanon, where it is distinguished by its successful educational outputs and its development. I aspire to continue graduate studies at Qatar University and hope to one day also become a faculty member. Thank you to QU and to the QU faculty, you have all my respect and appreciation, may Allah (SWT) reward you. I would also like to thank my supportive family, without which, I would not be able to reach what I have today.

Tamim Sultan Al-Shreim – International Affairs

Achievement is the tree that passed through all its stages and becomes fruitful. This is what Qatar

University offered me in terms of education. From the first day at QU, it was hard to picture what would be expected of me before I reach the finish line at graduation. Before success, there must be goals, and before creating goals there is work, before work there is preparation and before that there is a plan. Through these steps that I learned from my father, I created a strategy for my education. Everything QU has offered me has been a great accomplishment, with every research paper and with every study, my knowledge expanded. My degree is a testimony of my loyalty, love and my keenness to join, with those who came before me, in building this nation.

To all who stood by me through the tough days, I must express my sincere thanks and tribute. Of course, my parents played a large role, they instilled in me the thirst for knowledge and are the biggest supporters through every letter I learned. They are a source of pride for me. My father illuminated the way for my research and understanding through his ideas, he is my teacher and my inspiration, and supported what I wanted. He motivated me through positive messages and an optimistic outlook and instilled in me confidence and love of service for my country.

Hassan Ahmed Lary – International Affairs

I am very happy to have reached here and to have achieved all my ambitions and my academic intentions. Following this,

I will continue my educational path and enter graduate studies, as learning is a lifelong journey that has no end. I chose my major, international affairs, as I fell in love with this field, while watching news and all that politics entails, from agreements to political relationships between countries and I became attached to this field. It makes me very proud to have finished my bachelor’s degree in this area. All my thanks to my parents for being my main supporters and for standing by me throughout my studies.

Qatar University is the place that illuminates the way for generations to come. I loved Qatar University through its respected faculty and staff, many thanks to them for their cooperation and dedication to their work. I also extend thanks to the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who supported the journey towards knowledge for Qatari youth.

Samer Haitham Ali – Medicine

One of my biggest achievements is founding the Qatar Medical Students’ Association, which is the first of its kind in the country and has full accreditation from the International Federation of Medical Students Associations. I was the founder as well as the petitioner for the accreditation. The Association is now a cooperation between QU medical students and medical students in Well Cornell in Education City, which is also the first joint work between the students of both institutions, in building the structure of the association and creating opportunities for students through workshops, exhibitions, awareness campaigns in the community and participation in health conferences regionally and globally. This was my biggest achievement as a student because it will continue and affect future students by opening the door for them to represent Qatar in international medical associations. It also allows them to take advantage of opportunities with other medical students around the world, through clinical courses and joint research.

I still find graduating bittersweet, happy that I realised my childhood dream, but also heavy that I have to leave my second home, Qatar. What I have accomplished will not remain just a memory, but a start to an ongoing journey towards knowledge and uninterrupted work. My parent’s greatest desire for me is to be part of the College of Medicine and the first doctor in my family.

Salman Fares Al-Ahbaby – Media

A higher education degree has always been a security to get the best available opportunities. For me the diploma is an assurance for my professional future, and I am determined to continue on to graduate studies in a field that supports my undergraduate degree. In today’s world, a diploma is a vital tool to have, which can open opportunities in the labor market, be it governmental or private. With the grace of Allah (SWT), I was able to conquer all the obstacles I faced as a student, which was not only due to my efforts but with the blessings of Allah (SWT).

I have always been drawn to the field of media, particularly the local and international media landscape and the fields of arts in general, which led me to specialise in this field. I am also interested in international affairs and political science, so for me studying media with a concentration in international affairs is very appropriate. To everyone, old or young, professor or administrator, who helped me with anything at all during my academics, thank you with all my heart.

Abdullah Nasser Al Emadi – Master’s Student in Business Administration

It is an indescribable feeling to complete my master’s degree as a distinguished student, which has greatly affected my life. In the future, I hope to continue my studies and earn a PhD and publish my research in scientific journals. My biggest achievement is learning to manage time between work, studies and my personal life with family. Although it was difficult in the beginning, I learned how to organize my time well. This diploma will open up opportunities for me in my current professional career and will help me compete for senior positions and help me find others jobs in different sectors.

Qatar University is the first and largest university in Qatar and one of the strongest universities locally and internationally. I chose to get a master’s degree in business administration because of my interest in this field to widen my horizons. Thank you to all my professors in the College of Business and Economics for their devotion in teaching us. Thank you to the College Dean and Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies for their unlimited support, especially Dr Emad Abu Shanab for his support during my graduation project.

Mohammed Osama Tawfiq – College of Education

My undergraduate degree changed my perspective on life. I cannot describe the feeling of graduating in a limited number of words. Throughout my academics, I faced a number of achievements and a variety of challenges. As for my future aspirations: I will search for the right job in my field and secure my personal life, then I will pursue graduate studies and benefit the Qatari society with the knowledge

I have attained. My biggest achievement is having a high academic performance and placing on the

Dean’s List and the VicePresident’s List throughout all the semesters, in addition to entering the world of volunteer work and meeting new people and making new friends.

Despite the numerous challenges I faced, with the help of QU I was able to complete so much. QU offered me many passages and support. I would also like to thank my family for being my rock; without the support of family, no student would be able to finish their studies.

Mohammed Badee Mahmoud – College of Medicine

Thankfully, this phase of my life is full of achievements. I was able to win the table tennis championship for several years and represented my university in a championship in Rome. In addition, I was able to publish a number of scientific researches in international scientific journals under the supervision of our respected professors. This led me to participate in international conferences and present and discuss my research with a number of scholars from around the world, all who specialise in various fields. It is an honour to graduate from the College of Medicine’s first batch. The diploma is a strong tool, which we need to face the world and have our feet firmly planted on the ground, as we face the coming challenges with certainty.

I seek to reach the highest level of my practice by completing my educational journey in the field of plastic surgery and even moving from a student’s seat to a lecturer’s seat and return the favor in the future.

Nasser Mohammed Al Karby – Law

The feeling of graduating and finishing one of the most important steps in life cannot be described in words. A university degree in today’s world is like a security card, guaranteeing your future and helping you in many matters such as employment, and it gives you the opportunity to help in building society and developing it. The goal is to not let the undergraduate journey be a destination but rather a station to greater places. I would like to thank my family for standing by me, without them I would not have been able to succeed in education, as they were true motivators who led the way to my graduation.

Yaman Fareed Al Ahmad –Medicine

I spent seven years in Qatar University. In 2014, I was admitted into the College of Engineering, this was before the College of Medicine was launched. That year, the local papers published the news that the College of Medicine would open in Qatar. I was deliberating with myself on the possibility of converting to the field I had always dreamed of practicing. With the grace of Allah (SWT), the support and prayers of my parents and siblings, I was able to be one of the first students admitted to the first medical school in Qatar. For me, the admission was one of my biggest achievements, which had a deep impact on my soul, thought and behaviour.

My next goal is to be a leader in radiology and to participate in scientific research and have it published in prestigious scientific journals. I have always aspired to be a doctor and to spread knowledge and skills to others and now I have reached what I dreamed.

Ahmad Yasser Mustafa – Accounting

I have mixed feelings about completing my undergraduate degree. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at

Qatar University around wonderful professors, which I will miss dearly but

I am also excited for the future. Upon graduating, I will take my first steps towards my goal, which is to become a successful accountant. A short-term goal is to find a job that helps me reach my greater goal. I chose my major because I love mathematics.

I would like to thank all my professors for shaping me, motivating me and who kept me curious and interested to learn more. Their support has led me to many achievements in my journey for knowledge, such as winning first place in the Ooredoo 5G competition. In addition, I won fifth place in the Qatar Stock Exchange Competition and placed on the Dean’s List a number of times in my university journey. All my appreciation goes to my family who helped me in many ways and stood by me.

Khalid Wajdy Sadeq – General Medicine

I feel joy and happiness having succeeded in university. I feel honoured to have graduated from the prestigious Qatar University and confident with the education that I have received, which will lead me on to greater things. And now I feel prepared for what is yet to come. I hope in the next few years to earn a certificate from the Internal Medicine Unit at Hamad Hospital and to publish a number of scientific researches and to expand my research knowledge. In the near future, I hope to earn a PhD in medical science.

Choosing this major was not difficult. It is one of the few majors that allows you to directly help others. Following one of my relative’s diagnosis with cancer and his recovery at the hands of doctors, I knew I wanted to be a doctor.

Sultan Bady Al Naimi – Media: Public Relations

I am very happy to have completed my bachelor’s degree in media. I aspire to become a well-known, influential and valuable media professional in society, and I will complete my postgraduate studies in the field of media to develop myself and the media community. My family played a large role in choosing my major, helping me and supporting me. I would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Hamda Al-Muhannadi and thank her for all that she has offered me in terms of support in my academic life.

Abdullah Al Nasser Al Amer - Accounting

A university diploma is not just a security but also an incentive to continue learning, gain new skills and also teaching those around us. Graduating is a beautiful feeling, and this is the first step towards facing numerous challenges but with the key of knowledge we gained through our bachelor degree. Through this knowledge, I will strive to develop myself. My university, Qatar University, of which I am so proud of, is the national university and places among the most advanced universities in the world, graduates, year after year, students who benefit the nation. A special thanks to the Chairman of the Board of Regents and the Deputy Amir HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani for his efforts in elevating the university and for all those who played a role in developing the university.

Mamoun Yousef Al-Shouli – College of Education

Through my studies I was able to refine my research skills, which also enabled me to write research papers after I developed my research ‘language’ and how to source and precisely document everything. In the end, this is what led me to graduate with such high honors. Overcoming and feeling successful is an important feeling for the formation of the human personality. I chose my major to develop the field as a teacher, particularly in schools in Qatar. I aim to continue my studies to develop new and innovative teaching methods for students who need specific ways to learn. Qatar University is an example of excellence and provides the ideal environment for scientific competencies.

Mohammed Ahmed Al-Obaidly – Media

My biggest achievements, which I still relay to my friends and family, is being able to organise my time between work, academia and family. Conquering time-management helped me to graduate as a highly distinguished student. I did not enter university because I wanted a promotion, but to expand my knowledge and education. I chose a major outside of my regular field of work at Al-Jazeera News Channel. As a father of three, my family’s support for me and their patience was limitless.

Following my final exam, I was very down as it meant that I had to leave university, where I learned so much and where I felt extremely supported to continue my master’s and doctor’s degrees.

Muhannad Waleed Al Taeey – Media

The feeling of graduation is so wonderful that the feelings of joy are mixed with success and the feelings of apprehension of what the future holds for me. I aspire to make my mark in the media field and become one of the world’s leading media professionals. I aspire to gain experience in the labour market in the field of media, but my academic goal is to complete my master’s degree.

The University opened a way for me to have many achievements including becoming president of a media club, secretary of the College of Arts and Sciences Student Council and a member of the Student Representative Council. Qatar University is a second home from which I gained various experiences and met great people and special friends who left a beautiful mark in my life. I would like to thank my dear family, who have been one of my biggest supporters, providing me with all the means to succeed and always believing in my ability to overcome difficulties and succeed at university.

Ahmed Awadh Al-Nouby – Foreign Affairs

One of the most important achievements of my student life is obtaining excellent marks in five courses in Spring 2020, at a time when work was overwhelming and I was going through personal family conditions. In addition to this, I was able to maintain my GPA and joined the Honors Program, placed on the Vice-President’s List and Dean’s List in most of the semesters. I am proud to have accomplished this despite the circumstances of the Coronavirus pandemic, where we had to study remotely. Undoubtedly, my degree will help me develop in my work and will open up new horizons, and expand my options. It will also enable me to complete my studies.

Abdullah Hassan Kayali – College of Education

A diploma is a great symbol of security due to our current general life, where standards in the community have risen and a great deal of people are educated individuals. With the diversity of skillsets and the percentages of those being able to deliver growing greater, the competition is fierce.

The door of knowledge does not close and its demand does not stop, so continuing to seek knowledge is a duty that does not end, and every human being should always seek to be a learner, whatever his knowledge or specialization. This is a religious duty before it is a necessity of public life.

Bashayer Amer Al Mansouri – Media: Public Relations

The diploma represents being a complete academic, regardless if the diploma is for your bachelors, master’s or doctor’s. When I was younger, I heard this phrase often, “whoever sows harvests, and whoever follows the path will arrive”. My feeling, as I end this journey is like that of a farmer, who has planted and now waits for his yield. My ambition for the future is to use my expertise and all that I have learned from my media professors over the past few years, and apply it to my professional life.

I continuously strive to develop myself in my field. While the undergraduate journey is a beautiful end for any student, a culmination of years of tireless work, it is also the beginning of a professional life where I can practice in my chosen field and offer my knowledge in the best way.

Abdullah Ibrahim Al Adwi - College of Sharia & Islamic Studies

University requires of its students to achieve because of its stimulating environment. The mere act of graduating is also an achievement, due to a student’s strong will and effort. There are other achievements, such as for me personally earning the title of distinguished student and the Order of Excellence Award, which required of me –through the blessings of Allah (SWT) - a great deal of discipline and effort. Today, there is no doubt in the importance of a higher education degree and the role it plays in offering a secure life.

I feel now I am a victor after managing to achieve one of my goals. I am of course full of joy. I feel now that I am like a traveler who passes by his country to recover before I continue on my journey. I aspire to attain my master’s and my doctor’s and then I can serve my country and give back what it has given me. Qatar University illuminated the way for me, through its distinguished staff, administration and faculty and through its environment, which enables students to achieve their goals.

Osama Abu Al Azayem Hassan – Mechanical Engineering

One of the most important achievements I have learned in Qatar University is to combat challenges and work under pressure. The environment in Qatar University is one that allows you to refine your personality both in your academic life and in your professional life. This stage is the result of a lot of work and late nights. The joy of graduating is a student’s great reward and all the hardships have been washed away.

I have a deep passion for engines, how they work and the machinery and manufacturing methods. This was the main reason I chose mechanical engineering. Never have I regretted entering this field, if anything, it encouraged me and pushed me and I turned this curiosity into love, and the love into a career. My family have been my greatest supporters.
