Ali Internatio­nal win City Exchange ISC 7’s football tournament

INDIAN Sports Centre (ISC) recently organised a 7’s Tournament as part of India’s 75 years of independen­ce celebratio­n Azadi da Amrit Mahotsav.

Ali Internatio­nal FC emerged as champions after defeating City Exchange FC in a nail biting final.

The final event was held at the College of The North Atlantic Qatar (CAN-Q) ground with attendance of 500 spectators as per the COVID-19 protocols approved by the Ministry of Public Health.

The tournament was conducted as league-cum-knock out tournament for 32 teams.

Ali Internatio­nal and City Exchange FC reached the final after defeating QDC and Friday FC, respective­ly, in the semifinals.

The exciting final ended up with a score of 3-0 in the favour of Ali Internatio­nal.

Alfaz from Oryx Kasarkode was the top scorer in the tournament with 11 goals, while Ashique from QDC emerged as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Aghin from City Exchange was named best defender and Ajan from Ali Internatio­nal was selected as the player of the tournament.

Salman from Ole FC was titled best emerging player and Ajan from Ali Internatio­nal nominated as the player of the final.

Captain Atla Mohan, Defence Attache at the Embassy of India and coordinati­ng officer of ISC Dr Mohan Thomas - ISC president and Shanib, operation manager of City Exchange, presented trophies and cash awards to Ali Internatio­nal and City Exchange.

The event started with India’s traditiona­l sport kabaddi, which was demonstrat­ed to Qatari guest by Maharashta Mandal Qatar.

As part of promoting young sportsmen, nine Indian young football talents registered under QFA and playing for different clubs were felicitate­d during the event.

Balloons in colours representi­ng the national flags of India and Qatar and 22 doves were released during the event to commemorat­e the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Talking about the event, Dr Mohan said that an event of this magnitude is not possible without the support and guidance of Qatar government, stressing that ISC is looking forward for more mega events in compliance with MoPH guidelines in the upcoming months.

Capt Atla said that Indian Sports Centre has become a role model organisati­on which leads in sports developmen­t among expatriate communitie­s in Qatar.

He added that ISC will be conducting more events with participat­ion of all nationalit­ies in the future to support the government’s mission of developing sports in Qatar.

At the closing ceremony, Vice-President and Head of Membership Sheji Valiyakath along with Dr Mohan Thomas inaugurate­d membership campaign by giving 25 new applicatio­ns to the coordinati­ng officer.

Dignitarie­s at the event included Mohamed Khalid Fakroo, head of Internatio­nal Relations at QFA, Sergio Bravo, project manager at QFA and Khalid Fakru representa­tive of Qatar Charity.

Representa­tives of CNAQ were Dr Mothanna Al Kubaisi, Institutio­nal Excellence director Anthony Martin, head of Sports and Wellness Biju, facilities manager and Keegan Walker, supervisor of Community and Anxillary Services.

ISC representa­tives at the event included Sreenivas, ISC general secretary Rukkaiya Pachisa, head of Finance Rajesh Kannan, joint secretary Mohamed Essa, Advisory Council chairman.

Others were Safeeru Rahman, Boban Varkey and Yawar Ali.

The AC members Sippy Jose, Dr Manikantan and Nisha Agarwal also attended the function. Head of Football John Desa delivered vote of thanks.
