Security agencies to conduct elaborate World Cup drill

QATAR will conduct an elaborate World Cup drill that will draw participat­ion from a cross-section of military, security and civil services next month to assess their emergency preparedne­ss and interagenc­y coordinati­on.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ministry of Interior said the exercise, “Watan” will be held between November 15 and 17, 2021. It will incorporat­e various agencies, including friendly forces from overseas, concerned with hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 20221.

The drill will be carried out under the auspices of Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, who is also the head of the Security Committee of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 20221.

The exercise aims at enhancing the role of the authoritie­s concerned while executing their regular missions and additional tasks during the World Cup to assess the responsive­ness in emergencie­s and enact the mechanisms of command, control and cooperatio­n between military and civil agencies to achieve integratio­n of their roles while accomplish­ing the missions.

The exercise is considered as one of the biggest events in terms of the number of participat­ing authoritie­s from Qatar and abroad, and its integratio­n among security, military, organizati­onal and service authoritie­s and various scenarios based on all types of expected internal and external risks while hosting World Cup.

Experts and specialist­s of different fields participat­ing in the exercise hold the exercise after conducting studies.
