Qatar Chamber reviews commercial ties with British Parliament delegation

QATAR Chamber Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani met with a delegation from the British Parliament headed by Angus Brendan MacNeil, Member of Parliament and Chair of the UK Internatio­nal Trade Commission. In the meeting, the officials touched upon bilateral relations between the two countries in the commercial and economic fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them.

They also discussed investment opportunit­ies available in both sides, as well as the British interest in deepening economic relations with Qatar particular­ly and the GCC states in general after its exit from the European Union, and opening

markets to Qatari and British companies to expand trade and investment between the two sides. The meeting was attended by QC general manger Saleh bin Hamad Al Sharqi.

Addressing the meeting, Sheikh Khalifa praised the close relations between Qatar and the UK, noting that there are various Qatari investment­s there in many sectors such as infrastruc­ture, real estate, and sports.

HE also paid tribute to the two countries’ trade exchange, stressing that the UK is an important trade partner to Qatar.

Angus Brendan MacNeil lauded the distinct relations between both countries, assuring his country’s keenness to underpin cooperatio­n with Qatar in all fields, increase their trade exchange and attract more Qatari investment­s in all sectors.

He also pointed out that the delegation’s visit aims to explore new aspects of cooperatio­n between both parties and study mechanisms that facilitate mutual investment­s between them.

It is worth mentioning that the Qatari investment­s in UK amounted to 40 billion, while the two countries’ trade volume exceeded QR16.6 billion last years despite the implicatio­n of the COVID-19 pandemic.
