CRA conducting nationwide survey to map contours of IT Industry in Qatar
A survey of all local companies providing Information Technology (IT) products and services has been initiated by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in Qatar
The survey which started in early April is part of a largescale strategic CRA research study, with the aim of building measurements and a comprehensive understanding of Qatar’s IT industry and on the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector.
The study comes in the context of global rapid technological developments and features the IT industry as a critical enabler of innovation across sectors and as a driver of economic growth and diversification, social prosperity, and environmental sustainability.
It covers various sector related aspects including market landscape, governance and regulations, infrastructure, research and development, innovation, funding and talent.
The data and information that will be collected through the survey will help build insights about the existing ICT landscape and highlight challenges and development opportunities for the future of the sector.
It will also contribute to CRA’s efforts on building targeted government initiatives and an effective regulatory framework for the ICT sector in support of sector growth and leveraging its potential. The CRA has reached out to more than 1,000 companies so far, including start-ups.
The survey will run until end of une 2022 online as well as face-to-face. It can be also be accessed through CRA’s website at www.cra.gov.qa. CRA has said that it “encourages and highly values the participation of local IT companies” in the survey.
As part of the research study, CRA held an IT roundtable event in March 2022, with the presence and participation of His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali Al-Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, along with senior representatives of the IT sector, government entities, and academia.
The event hosted an interactive discussion of industry leaders and exchanged views and experiences about the local industry development. Moving forward and along with the survey, CRA will continue working and engaging with key players and stakeholders in the sector through in-depth interviews and targeted workshops.
