Qatar General PPI increases 69.48% in March year-on-year

PLANNING and Statistics Authority (PSA) has released the new Monthly Producer Price Index (PPI) of the Industrial sector for March 2022, which is considered as the first issues of PPI index calculated based on 2018. Where the details of relative importance and prices for the base year of 2018 are used, therefor the relatives of the main four industry sectors become as follow: “Mining” (weight: 82. ), “Manufactur­ing” (weight: 15.85 ), “Electricit­y” (weight: 1.15 ), and “Water” (weight: 0.52 ).

The PPI for March ,2022 is estimated at 1 5. 7 points showing an increase of 8.88 , when compared to the previous months February 2022. On Y-o-Y basis, PPI of March 2022 showed an increase of 9. 8 , when compared to the PPI of March ,2021.

Concerning Mining sector, the PPI of March 2022 for this sector showed an increase by 9.87 when compared with PPI of February 2022, primarily due to the price increasing of “Crude petroleum and natural gas” by 9.88 , and “Other mining and quarrying” decrease by 0.5 . PPI of March 2022, when compared with its counterpar­t in previous year (March 2021), there was an increase of 75.05 .

As for Manufactur­ing, an increase of .89 has been recorded in March 2022, when compared with the previous months Manufactur­ing index (February 2022). The prices increase is seen in: “Refined Petroleum products” by 1 . 7 , followed by “Printing and reproducti­on of recorded media” 10.0 , “Chemicals and chemical products” by .70 , “Basic metals” by 2.79 , “Rubber and Plastics products” by 0. 1 , “food products” by 0.21 , and “Beverages” by 0.0 , the decreasing prices are noticed in “Cement other non-metallic mineral products” by 0.0 .

Comparing with the index of counterpar­t in the previous year (March 2021), “Manufactur­ing” PPI of March 2022 showed an increase of 52. 8 . The major groups which explain this price increase are: “Refined Petroleum products” by 7.0 , followed by “chemicals and chemical products” by 2. 9 , “Rubber and Plastics products” by 8.10 , “Basic metals” by . 8 , “Cement other non-metallic mineral products” by 15. 1 , “food products” by 1.09 , However the decreasing prices are noticed in “Beverages” by 2.25 , and “Printing and reproducti­on of recorded media” by 0.21 .

For Electricit­y, gas, steam and air conditioni­ng supply, the PPI of this group showed a decrease of .9 compared to February 2022. When compared the PPI of March 2022, to the PPI of March 2021 Y-oY, showed a decrease of 5. .

As for Water supply, the PPI of this group showed a decrease of . 1 compared to February 2022. When compared the PPI of March 2022, to the PPI of March 2021 Y-oY, showed a decrease of 2. .
