Three seminars introduce QU members to 2022 World Cup volunteering programme
THREE seminars were held by Qatar University QU in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and egacy
SC to introduce QU members to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 volunteering programme and its mechanism. The programme will allow volunteering in more than 0 job fields.
The promotional campaign included three seminars held under the title Be at the heart of the tournament’. The first one was organised on April 17 at Ibn haldun Hall. The second, for girls was held on April 19 in the new auditorium of the College of Education I10 , and the third seminar was held on April 21 at the Research Complex amphitheatre H10 .During the seminar period, a number of introductory pavilions were allocated in several locations of the University for volunteering in the programme. The locations included the Student Activities Building for Boys, the ibrary Building Girls’ Section, and the ectures Building - Girls.The volunteer programme team from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and egacy gave an extensive explanation of the history of the World Cup and where its idea originated from. The event also included a detailed explanation of how to apply for the volunteer programme via the website. In conclusion, the volunteer programme team answered the questions and inquiries of the attendees, and presented a series of competitions, in addition to distributing gifts of appreciation to the winners.
In his statement about the university’s organisation of introductory seminars, Dr Hassan Al-Derham, President of Qatar University, said “For years, we have been waiting for this international sporting event, preparing for it, and harnessing all efforts to make it a success. Qatar University has been a pioneer in various fields, including arts and sports. Today, the International Football Association FIFA welcomes the establishment of the “It’s Time” event to introduce the World Cup volunteer programme, which includes 20,000 volunteers to help Qatar in this event, and this programme is perhaps the largest in the country.”
Dr Al-Derham added “The University also welcomes the choice of the Argentine national team to make Qatar University as the headquarters for its team, after a delegation from the team visited the university and reviewed its sports facilities and housing units.”
Al-Derham said “The selection of Qatar University by an international team, such as Argentina, indicates the good reputation that the University enjoys at the world level and the international-level infrastructure it possesses.”
In his speech during the event, Nasser Al-Mughaisib, Director of Volunteering Strategy Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery egacy said “I was pleased to be at Qatar University, which is always our first reference in launching and presenting events for students. We are currently focusing on making volunteers from citizens and residents in the State of Qatar.”
The volunteer programme team pointed out that joining the volunteer programme in the Qatar 2022 World Cup is a historic opportunity and an event that will remain engraved in the memory, as it is an opportunity in the manufacture of this event, and the participation of volunteers will contribute to creating amazing and unparalleled experiences, and will remain firmly in their minds, especially since volunteering for the tournament is an opportunity for sustainable development and a long-term investment for citizens and residents, as training courses will be provided before the start of the volunteer programme and after the completion of the programme.
The volunteer team, in its introductory presentation of the programme, also touched upon introducing the “Hayyahum” programme, which is one of the specialised programmes for Arabic speakers. The programme was developed for non-Arabic speakers wishing to learn the Arabic language. The team also indicated that the requirement to speak English fluently for those wishing to volunteer in the programme has been abolished, as the Volunteering Department of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and egacy seeks to attract the largest possible number of volunteers from citizens and residents.
The FIFA Volunteer Programme during the Qatar 2022 World Cup is the largest volunteer activity in the history of the country, and aims to gather people under the football umbrella to organise the first edition of the tournament in the Arab world and the Middle East, celebrate the region’s passion for football, and shed light on the legacy of the State of Qatar. The 2022 World Cup Volunteering Programme seeks to empower thousands of volunteers to play essential roles in all operational aspects during the tournament and lay the foundations for a proud and sustainable volunteer legacy in the region.
