- TRIBUNE NEWS NETWORK

THE Qatari Designers initiative is reignited at the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition (DJWE) this year, celebrating local talents and their unique designs at the Doha Exhibition and Conference Centre (DECC), running from May 9 to 14.

Five years ago, DJWE launched the Qatari Designers Initiative, a platform through which Qatari designers can stand side by side among some of the most prestigious and established local and international brands.

With one pavilion housing promising Qatari talents as well as leading brands, designers have the opportunity to inspire, and be inspired by, by what’s on offer.

Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said, “The Qatari Designers initiative supports up and coming designers in their growth journeys. We are proud to see a proven track record with former talents who were part of the initiative and are now owners of successful and established brands. We look forward to celebrating further designers and providing the opportunity for creative development across the country.”

Alghla Jewellery has grown since its early days in 2011, participating in multiple exhibitions both locally and internationally.

Founded by Shaikha Mohammed Al Ghanim, Alghla sets out to create jewellery that honours the pearl history of the country and that caters to local tastes and preferences.

Showcasing timeless jewellery, Clair De Lune prides itself in creating long-lasting jewellery and working with its customers directly to jointly create the perfect piece. Their Asjad collection sees brilliant diamonds set with sparkling precious stones.

Sisters Mariam and Noora Al Meadadi launched Thameen in 2018, a brand that commits to elevating the timeless culture of ancient civilisations. From the geometric lines of its Albahia collection to the crown-like designs of its Taj collection, Thameen offers an array of gold and diamond jewellery that celebrates history.

Newcomer DE TROVE joins the exhibition with collections that cater to both adults and children. Inspired by elements from nature, the young brand prides itself in its workmanship and the creation of luxurious and elegant designs.

AlDana Hamad Al Henzab created DW Jewellery with a view that even the simplest jewellery can speak volumes on one’s personality and style. With its unconventional Safety Pin collection, the brand strikes a balance between adventurous yet charming design.

Ghand Jewellery sets outs to be one of the most ‘affordable luxury’ jewellery brands in the world. Launched by Hissa and Jawaher Al Mannai, the two sisters took their childhood passion for accessorising, and developed it further to create sophisticated designs such as the Lady Rose, Suhail Star, and jewellery inspired by Arabesque elements.

H Jewellery celebrates Qatari culture by incorporating the country’s contemporary architecture and weaving in Islamic patterns and symbols into their works. The talent behind this brand, Hamad Al Mohammad, has also collaborated with artists to create one-of-a-kind collections, such as The Butterfly.

Sameera Al Mulla is the creative and entrepreneurial powerhouse behind Hessa Jewels. A banker by day, Mulla believes that jewellery can be both a wearable investment and fashion statement.

The name ‘Hessa’ is inspired by pearls, a gem with a long and noble history in Qatar.

With an admiration for the history embodied in Arabic calligraphy, Midad Jewellery incorporates calligraphy in its designs, creating a unique brand that proudly represents the culture.

Other pieces by the brand weave in the wellloved ‘sadu’ lines and prints that are found in Qatar.

Nouf Jewellery offers bold designs studded in diamonds. Arabian horses set in white diamonds with yellow sapphire or rubies make up some of the brand’s most notable collections.

Additionally, unique pieces of jewellery representing the Qatar flag in the form of a ring or bracelet can also be found.
