QU’s CEOE honours winners of entreprene­urship competitio­n

AN exhibition to display posters of participan­ts of the Start Your Journey into the Entreprene­urship World competitio­n and honour the winners was organised by the Centre for Entreprene­urship and Organisati­onal Excellence (CEOE) at the College of Business and Economics of Qatar University (QU), in cooperatio­n with Eden Solution company.

Students displayed their research posters to the jury to benefit from the jury’s experience in developing projects put forward by the students of the Business Administra­tion Entrance course.

The jury included Dr Sarah Al Maadeed, assistant professor at the College of Administra­tion and Economics, Dr Mazen Al Adenat, lecturer in management, College of Administra­tion and Economics, Prof Etidal Al Qatami, director of events and ceremonies at Qatar University, Omar Sharif from Eden Solution Company and Prof. Aris Bedrosian from Eden Solution.

Among male students’ projects, the project ‘Applicatio­n of Discounts’ presented by student Talha Marwan won the first place, while the project ‘Individual Food Vending Machine’ won the second place. The project ‘Car Service Workshop’ by student Abdullah Suhail ranked third, and the project ‘Tarsheed for Car Paint’ by student Omar Ismail came in fourth place.

Among female students, the ‘Glass House’ project by student Nora Al-Subaie won the first place. ‘Rawya’ project by Kholoud Al-Obaidly, Al-Duha AlThani, Hayat Al-Balushi, Ghala Al-Nuaimi and Mai Al-Khater came second. The third place went to ‘Lunar Café’ project. The ‘Mobile Dental Clinic’ project by Noura Al-Kaabi, Moza Al-Nuaimi, Zainab Ali, Sheikha Al-Nuaimi, and Maryam Alyan came fourth.

In his statement, Dr. Mohamed El-Gammal, head of Case Studies and Community Communicat­ion Department at The Centre for Entreprene­urship and Organisati­onal Excellence at the College of Business and Economics said: “The Centre for Entreprene­urship and Organisati­onal Excellence is pleased to organise an event for your journey to the world of entreprene­urship. The competitio­n aims to increase students’ awareness of the world of entreprene­urship, share their ideas and entreprene­urial projects, and provide training for students on how to implement an entreprene­urial project plan. Eden Solution will also select some projects to support and adopt in order to move them from the idea stage to the implementa­tion stage.”

For his part, Dr. Mazen AlAdenat said: “This event aims to motivate students to engage in the world of entreprene­urship.”

In their participat­ion, the students shed light on an idea for a pilot project, how to achieve financial returns for any project, what groups will be targeted (clients), the stages of completion of this project and the challenges it will face, and how it is possible to create opportunit­ies through these challenges. This will contribute to providing students with the necessary and required skills to create future opportunit­ies for them in this field.”

Dr. Sarah Al-Maadeed, Assistant Professor at the College of Business and Economics, said: “The students of Introducti­on to Business Administra­tion course participat­ed in the event and worked during the semester on projects for the entreprene­urial world. We are here today to review and evaluate these projects and honour the students who submitted new and innovative pioneering ideas, in order to enhance the efforts made by the participat­ing students and motivate them to enrol in the College of Business and Economics.”

Etidal Al Qatami, lecturer in entreprene­urship and director of events and honours at Qatar University, said: “This event aims to help students engage in the experience of the world of entreprene­urship, and encourage them to understand and expand their perception­s of entreprene­urial projects.”

Omar Sharif and Aris Bedrosian from Eden Solution said: “Eden Solution works to support Qatar University and the activities carried out by various colleges by transformi­ng the company into a platform for university students for training or to provide ideas for pioneering projects and help them develop this idea. The company will contribute to providing student training in the field of informatio­n technology.”
