India & Bangladesh to feature in 7-a-side football tournament ahead of WC

INDIA and Bangladesh have not qualified for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the two countries will not feature in the official Fans’ Cup hosted by World Cup organisers. However, the two Asian countries will feature in a 7-aside football tournament involving six teams on November 19 and 20, organisers of the event informed yesterday.

The event will take place in the sporting arena of Al Rayyan Internatio­nal School and will be played on a league-cum-knockout basis with the top teams from the league stages making it to the final. The other teams in the tournament are hosts Qatar, England, Mexico and Argentina.

Mexican fan Miguel is excited to be part of the tournament ahead of the official FIFA Fans’ Cup. “We, Mexicans fans, are delighted and excited that a tournament of such a nature is taking place in Qatar ahead of the FIFA Fans’ Cup. It is a nice opportunit­y to fine-tune our team for the FIFA Fans’ Cup,” he said.

Meanwhile, the World Cup organizers have announced the Fans’ Cup will be held from November 29 to December 2 in central Doha with fans competing for the biggest title in football fandom. The Fans’ Cup is a four-day event bringing fans from across the world together to take part in a thrilling five-a-side tournament during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Fans from all 32 competing nations are invited to take part to determine the champions of the fan world.

The competing teams will consist of minimum of seven players and maximum of 10 players of same gender and over 18 years of age during the football showpiece event with passionate fans competing for amazing prizes.

All visiting players must have travel and accommodat­ion secured for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 during the dates of the Fans’ Cup and must be nationals/residents of the country that they want to represent.
