LUIZ Felipe Scolari, who was Brazil coach when they were thrashed 7-1 by Germany in their home 2014 World Cup but won the 2002 title, announced his retirement on Sunday.

Felipão told Athletico Paranaense club TV he will have his final game as coach on Sunday, when the team welcome Botafogo in the final matchday of the Brazilian league.

“I’m ending my career as coach and will become a director, a new position that I don’t know very well.

“But I will try to learn as fast as possible,” he said. He will take the job as director at Athletico.

Felipão or “Big Phil” secured 27 titles throughout his career, including the domestic league and the Copa Libertadores twice each, and is one of the best coaches in Brazilian football history.
