Germany can make it to World Cup semi-finals, says Poland’s Lewandowski

-

POLAND striker Robert Lewandowski spent 12 years playing in Germany and believes the German team can reach the semi-finals at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

It all kicks off on Sunday and while Germany are not among the favourites for many pundits, Lewandowski says you can never discount the fourtimes winners.

“Germany have a good mix of older and young players. They have been in good form recently and can definitely get to the semi-finals. And when you are in the semi-finals, anything can happen. The German team will be dangerous,” the 34-year-old told Kicker magazine on Monday.

The now Barcelona striker won a treble at Bayern under now Germany coach Hansi Flick in 2020.

“I know Hansi Flick is a great coach, with him Germany can achieve a lot at this World Cup.”

Lewandowski was more reserved about the chances of his Poland team.

They have been drawn into a difficult group alongside Argentina, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in the first ever November and December tournament.

“Every game will be tough,” said Lewandowski, who expects a very physical tournament. The players are in the middle of their rhythm.

“Teams will play with more risk because the gap between the first and last group game is very short.”
