QU, Traffic Tech (Gulf) sign research collaborat­ion pact

QATAR University College of Engineerin­g (QU-CENG), represente­d by Qatar Transporta­tion and Traffic Safety Centre (QTTSC), signed a research agreement with Traffic Tech (Gulf) Group to establish collaborat­ion in the field of research, consultanc­y and knowledge transfer.

The agreement was signed by QU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Omar AlAnsari and Traffic Tech (Gulf) Group Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Abdel Rahman Al Khateeb in the presence of officials from both institutio­ns. It aims to establish collaborat­ion between QU and Traffic Tech in research and profession­al training, as well as the exchange of informatio­n and consultanc­y.

QTTSC will provide the Traffic Tech (Gulf) Group with consultanc­y, profession­al training and workshops covering the areas of traffic engineerin­g and traffic safety, while Traffic Tech (Gulf) Group will offer training to some of CENG students, as well as technical and technologi­cal support to QTTSC at all levels.

Dean of Engineerin­g Dr. Khalid Kamal Naji commented saying, “This agreement is a continuati­on of a series of agreements with the private sector to confirm CENG’s keenness to provide distinguis­hed research and advisory services and stimulate sustainabl­e economic and social developmen­t for the State of Qatar.”

He added, “This agreement that we sign today confirms our continuous endeavour to find solutions to the challenges facing the various sectors in the country, and to build local competenci­es capable of facing difficulti­es in a manner that serves all the institutio­ns of the country, in line with national priorities towards a knowledge-based economy.”

Traffic Tech (Gulf) CEO, Eng. Abdel Rahman Al Khateeb said, “Traffic Tech (Gulf) fully supports Qatar University’s continuous efforts in developing collaborat­ion and exchange of experience in the field of Intelligen­t Transporta­tion Systems and Traffic Engineerin­g Solutions. The group looks forward to mutual coordinati­on, scientific researches, technology transfer and sharing lessons learned by the private sector during the numerous roads projects in which the group was involved, especially those projects related to FIFA World cup 2022.”

He also noted that Traffic Tech was keen since its establishm­ent more than twenty years ago, to provide partners with state-of-the-art Intelligen­t Transporta­tion Systems and Traffic Engineerin­g Solutions all over the state of Qatar through a highly specialize­d team of engineers and technician­s.

In his comment, Director of QU-CENG Qatar Transporta­tion and Traffic Safety Centre, Dr. Muhammad Yusef Al-Qaradawi said: “Qatar Transporta­tion and Traffic Safety Center strives to enhance cooperatio­n with the private sector in order to achieve the vision of Qatar University, and this agreement is one of the important achievemen­ts on this path as it will enhance joint cooperatio­n in the field of engineerin­g consultanc­y, and will also contribute to the transfer of developed knowledge in the centre to the community.

“Through this agreement, QTTSC will provide a set of profession­al training courses that aims to develop technical and knowledge capabiliti­es in the field of traffic and safety engineerin­g, noting that during the past five years, the center conducted more than 17 training courses in which more than 380 specialist­s participat­ed. This agreement also includes conducting a study on the role of personal mobility vehicles, such as electric scooters, in the transporta­tion system in the state of Qatar and identifyin­g the challenges of the wide spread of such mode on traffic management and public safety.”
