WITH days to go for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 kickoff, a large number of foreigners and locals have begun to flock at Doha’s iconic Corniche Street.

Men, women and children can be seen out there in strength, enjoying the pleasant weather on the waterfront pedestrian path which is beautifully illuminated at night.

Raising slogans in favour their favourite teams, different groups march with musical instruments and the flag of Qatar in addition to that of the teams they support.

Members of a group parading with Brazilian the flag said: “We are always with Brazil. We are waiting for the tournament to begin and will continue with the celebrations until the final is played. Being involved and participating in these celebrations along with others is a once in a life-time opportunity for many of us,” an Indonesian expatriate said.

A member of a French family said, “This is our first time in Doha and this is also the first time we will be watching the FIFA World Cup in person. We are being hosted by a friend and will be here in Qatar for more than one month. We are here not only for the World Cup, but also to enjoy the Arab culture and tradition.”

Flag Plaza is one of the most attractive spots for visitors and it may eventually turn out to be most posted photo on social media pages of those who visited there, say some.

An Egyptian expatriate said, “I have changed my everyday jogging to Corniche as it fills me with joy. It’s an opportunity to meet people from around the world who are equally happy to be here.”

Fan groups of countries like Argentina, England and Germany were also seen celebrating at the Corniche and voicing support for their favourite teams.
