Cabinet applauds outstandin­g World Cup opening ceremony

THE Cabinet has applauded the outstandin­g and exceptiona­l success of the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 on Sunday, which was patronised by His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani on Wednesday, highlighte­d the important contents of HH the Amir’s speech delivered during the opening ceremony, and the dazzling preparatio­n and organisati­on of the historic occasion.

The Cabinet hailed the performanc­es, which carried messages of deep meanings, reflected the bright images of the civilizati­onal and cultural heritage of the State of Qatar and the Arab world, emphasised the human dimension of sport and its influentia­l role in uniting people and spreading a culture of peace, tolerance, mutual respect.

The Cabinet said it was proud of the wise policy and directives of HH the Amir, thanks to which Qatar was able to accomplish one milestone after another.

The Cabinet added that the successful hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which dazzled the world, adds a new and unique chapter to the record of achievemen­ts that have strengthen­ed the state’s position, its active role in bringing about world peace and consolidat­ion of the principles of understand­ing and solidarity between countries and peoples.

The Cabinet affirmed that the success of the World Cup opening ceremony, the wide acclaim and follow-up it received from around the world, and the success achieved by the tournament at all levels will remain a source of pride for Qatar and its people. The Cabinet mentioned the role of youth who were behind the achievemen­t with their stupendous efforts, thoughts, hard and sustained work for over 12 years to create an environmen­t conducive to organizing the tournament leading to an exceptiona­l World Cup tournament that honors the Arab nation.

THE Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani on Wednesday, approved a draft decree approving the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) agreement for Al Wakra and Al Wukair Sewage Treatment Works project.

This project was proposed in partnershi­p between the public and private sectors.

The Cabinet also approved a draft decision by the Minister of Communicat­ions and Informatio­n Technology to specify the correspond­ence system service fees for the semi-government­al and private sectors.

The Cabinet approved the renewal of the membership of the chairman and members of the Grievance Committee of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA).

The Grievance Committee of QFMA, which is headed by a chairman, who is a chief of the Court of Appeals, along with two Court of Appeals judges as well as two others having experience in the securities field as its members, is competent to decide on the grievances concerning the penal decisions issued by the QFMA.

The Cabinet also took the necessary measures to ratify a memorandum of understand­ing for cooperatio­n in the fields of youth and sports between the government­s of Qatar and the Eastern Republic of Uruguay.

The Cabinet then reviewed and took the appropriat­e decisions on a draft Amiri decisions to reorganise some public bodies, institutio­ns and government agencies; the outcomes of the 8th Meeting of ministers responsibl­e of Islamic affairs and endowments in the Gulf Cooperatio­n Council (GCC) countries; and a report on the meetings of the opening week of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
