2021 saw five women killed per hour by family or partners: UN

EACH hour in 2021 saw an average of five women or girls killed by a partner or family member in their own homes, according to a new N report.

Around 56 percent of all murders of women and girls,

5,000 out of 1,000, were committed by partners or family members in 2021, according to the report published on Wednesday by the N agencies NODC and N Women, which deal with crime and women respective­ly.

For murders of men, the figure was 11 percent.

Overall, the “alarmingly high” number of murders of women and girls had hardly changed in recent years, the report continued.

Moreover, there may be a high number of unreported cases.

The N agencies called for
