IT’S been a spectacular FIFA World Cup so far and everything Qatar has done has created an environment that is so safe that people can come, make memories, and learn about the culture of different countries that are participating in the tournament, Ambassador of the United States of America to Qatar HE Timmy T Davis has said.

“It is not that fans from across the world who are here will learn about the people and culture of Qatar only, there are also people from 31 other countries that are playing in the tournament. So it’s a very good chance to know the people and culture of different countries. So every day there are opportunities to expand Americans’ view of the world,” the US envoy told Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of the annual ‘Discover America Festival’ organised by the Lulu Group at its newly opened hypermarket at the Pearl Island.

The US envoy continued, “I am really enjoying the tournament, very satisfied and happy not only with what is happening inside the stadiums but also the actions that we are seeing outside.”

Talking about the fifth annual strategic dialogue between Qatar and the United States of America that kicked off in Doha recently, he said, “Our strategic dialogue with Qatar is a model not just for the region but for the entire world. When talked during the workshops on this strategic dialogue about trade and commerce, we are talking about the opportunities, we are talking about Qatari priorities, and how we can support them. We are going to identify the ways in which we can encourage investments in both countries.”

“Whenever we talk about the strategic dialogue between the US and Qatar, I am always impressed by Qatar National Vision 2030. It looks like almost a decade now where Qatar wants to be and we want to be part of this vision. Our focus is on trade and commerce. The two countries need to look beyond energy cooperation and we got to build partnerships on the levels of small and medium enterprises, we got to build on people-to-people. The more our people are engaged there are better chances that we create greater opportunities that we don’t see now,” he said.

About agreements signed as part of the strategic dialogue, the US envoy said, “Currently, I don’t have anything to announce but I think we will see a lot happening in the first quarter of 2023 and a lot about the strategic dialogue.”

We are working through Lulu Hypermarket today not only to bring regular products but also organic products and fresh meat in a bid to promote US products in Qatar.”

He said that this festival is an example of providing support to build the trade foundation between two countries.

“Discover America Festival is very important to us as it is showcasing US foods, vegetables, and meat contributing greatly to promoting US products in Qatar. The festival is also introducing American cuisines and traditional foods including chickens and barbeques,” the envoy said.
