PRESIDENT of the High Council of State in Libya Khaled AlMashri has affirmed that the State of Qatar is continuing to organise an exceptional World Cup tournament that will leave behind a human and civilisational legacy to the world despite the hateful racist campaigns that try to distort this great success.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Libya’s President of the High Council of State expressed pride at the amazing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 being held in a manner that’s better than all the previous editions. He stressed that this gives confidence that Arabs are capable of organising such tournaments and hosting major international events.

“The State of Qatar has dazzled the world with this distinguished organisation of the World Cup, and succeeded in thwarting the racist schemes that try to quench this sparkle, divert the world’s attention from this distinction and drag us into an arena other than that of sports through campaigns of distortion and misinformation.”

“We are a nation proud of its morals and traditions and take the lead in that,” he said. Noting that Qatar, in organising the FIFA World Cup 2022, did not only excel in the sporting side of the preparations and organisation, but also showed its high morals and humanity by dealing with the world with respect, appreciation and authentic generosity. Therefore, the World Cup in Qatar will become a milestone in the relationship between peoples and civilisations, and all efforts to the contrary will fail, he added.

Al-Mashri underlined that this World Cup will contribute to changing the distorted stereotype of Arabs and Muslims, after the visitors to Qatar have witnessed that elegant and ethical attitude in which all sublime human values and high-end Islamic and Arab ethics were embodied. He pointed out that this pulled the rug from under the feet of those who are trying to quench this World Cup sparkle that shines from Qatar and the Middle East region.

He indicated that Qatar’s guests from all over the world have seen a good treatment and an exceptional organisation that demonstrated Qatari creativity, advanced technology, and a high level of performance at various levels, and this would reflect a positive image of the Arab and Islamic world.

He called on the world to focus on sport and the human legacy it creates, as well as the opportunity it leaves for humanity to meet and for engage in cultural communication. He emphasised that sports is a means to achieve human and civilised goals, but “there are those who try to drag us into other arenas that have nothing to do with sport or human values.”

He said that Qatar and Libya enjoy deep and historical relations. He also praised the position of the State of Qatar in support of the Libyan people and its constant keenness on their security and stability and on achieving their aspirations for peace and development.
