Team spirit, discipline, respect: Cameroon boss explains Onana axing

-

CAMEROON coach Rigobert Song says goalkeeper André Onana can remain at the World Cup if he respects the rules after an unspecified discipline breach led to him being axed from the team.

Song put Devis Epassy in goal instead of the Inter Milan man and he performed well in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Serbia, which reignited Ghana’s campaign in Qatar.

“The goalkeeper position is important. But you know, we are in the middle of an important tournament. And I know what I have to do - make sure the team is above every individual,” Song told a news conference on Monday.

“André understood my decision. It is important that we

all show team spirit, discipline and respect here,” Song said.

“I prefer to protect the group than the individual.” Onana must respect the rules, he added. “If he does that, maybe he can return to the squad.”
