Minister of Health leads Qatar’s team in WHO’s ‘Walk the Talk’ initiative
MINISTER of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari on Sunday participated in the World Health Organization’s Walk the Talk: Health For All Challenge in Geneva ahead of the 76th World Health Assembly.
A number of senior officials from Qatar’s health sector, many dignitaries and heads of delegations participating in the meetings of the World Health Assembly, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, FIFA and a large number of the public participated in the event.
This year, the fourth edition of Walk the Talk coincides with WHO’s 75th anniversary year and provides an opportunity to promote solidarity and to get moving for physical and mental health.
The Qatar delegation took part in the Walk the Talk event which offered participants the opportunity to walk, run or use a wheelchair over a three- or 4.2-kilometre route.
The Walk the Talk initiative was held in Doha for the first time on the eve of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as part of the Sport for Health partnership between the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, World Health Organization and FIFA.
While in Geneva, the minister of Public Health and the Qatar delegation are participating in the 76th World Health Assembly from 21 to 30 May 2023. The theme of this year’s World Health Assembly is: WHO at 75: Saving lives, driving health for all.
The Ministry of Public Health, in partnership with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, will also host an event in Geneva on May 23 to highlight the aims and achievements of the Sport for Health partnership during the World Cup 2022 which aimed to make the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 a beacon for physical and mental health promotion, and a model for ensuring future mega sport events are healthy and safe
Qatar’s Olympic high jump gold medallist, Mutaz Barshim, and Syrian swimmer, Yusra Mardini, will participate as special guests in the event, which brings together mega sports event hosts and organisers to share their experience and garner support and commitment towards a sustained global movement for sport and health.
Representatives from Generation Amazing, a Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy initiative dedicated to achieving positive social change in communities using the transformative power of football, will be at the event to showcase their work and offer attendees the opportunity to get engaged in a football related activation.
