Education Above All voices concern over impact of Sudan’s conflict on education
THE Education Above All (EAA) Foundation has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Sudan and its detrimental impact on access to education for thousands of children.
In a report, EAA called on the international community to unite in their efforts to safeguard educational institutions, students and teachers during these challenging times, ensuring that the fundamental human right to a safe and quality education is upheld.
The report read, “The escalating conflict in Sudan has disrupted the education of countless children, putting their futures at risk. It is crucial for all parties involved to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children, as well as respect the sanctity of educational spaces.”
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Maleiha Malik, executive director of Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) at EAA, said: “The current situation in Sudan highlights the importance of working together to protect education during conditions of conflict and ensure that children have the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe environment. Education is the foundation of prosperous, peaceful and just societies, and we must strive to preserve it during times of crisis.”
Dr Mary Joy Pigozzi, executive director of EAA’s EAC Programme, said: “Not only does every child have the right to a quality education, it is in everyone’s interest to ensure that each and every child and young people can safely access and remain in school. It is vital that education is disruption free in order to ensure the wellbeing and empower the potential of our children and societies. We must stop making children pay the price of the Sudanese conflict.”
Education Above All urged all parties involved in the conflict to respect the rights of students, teachers and educational institutions, and to prioritise the needs of children during these challenging times.
EAA’s #UniteToProtect campaign aims to raise global awareness of the importance of education and the need to protect the future of the next generations by guaranteeing the right to safe, quality education for every child.
The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation is a global foundation established in 2012 by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. EAA aims to transform lives through education.
EAA believes that education is the single most effective means of reducing poverty, creating peaceful and just societies, unlocking the full potential of every child and youth, and creating the right conditions to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
