900 runners participate in QU’s 3rd Cross-Country Race Championship
QATAR University (QU), in collaboration with the Alumni Association, recently organised CrossCountry Race Championship for the third consecutive year. The event witnessed the participation of approximately 300 male participants and 600 female participants. Competitors took part in races spanning distances of 3km and 5km, demonstrating their athleticism and spirit of sportsmanship.
In a statement marking this occasion, Jassim Al-Hamar, the head of Men’s Sports Activities and Fitness Programs at QU, stated, “QU is organising the Cross-Country Race Championship in collaboration with both the Sports Affairs Department and the Alumni Association for the third year in row. This championship comes to emphasize the importance of sports and align with Qatar’s vision in the sports sector, where significant progress has been made regionally and globally. QU organizes such sporting events to encourage its affiliates, graduates, and the community as a whole to engage in sports due to its significant impact on health.” AlHamar also emphasized the university’s efforts to enhance its sporting role by utilizing its world-class sports facilities to their fullest potential.
Amina Al-Kaabi, section head of Women’s Athletics at QU, added, “This event serves as a great opportunity to encourage girls to engage in running, which requires no prior athletic experience but motivates them to participate in sports and improve their overall health. The university provided an excellent environment for girls, with the sports field entirely closed for the comfort and privacy of the participants, who felt at ease during the race.”
It is worth mentioning that this year’s Ramadan Cross-Country Race, held on March 22 and 23 at the QU campus, witnessed unprecedented enthusiasm from participants of all ages and backgrounds. Families of both male and female participants attended the championship, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. The CrossCountry Race Championship is a form of endurance race where participants run long distances for extended periods, in contrast to short-distance speed races that are measured in seconds.
