CHAD’S Ministry of Water and Sanitation has honoured Qatar Charity (QC) for its outstanding contribution to addressing the water resources problem in the capital, N’Djamena, and its surrounding areas. The ministry placed Qatar Charity in the second position in terms of its impactful developmental interventions in the water and sanitation sector in Chad, after UNICEF.

The recognition came on the occasion of Qatar Charity’s inauguration of 50 deep wells in the capital, N’Djamena, and its outskirts, coinciding with the recent World Water Day. Minister of Water and Sanitation, Basile Kana-Bi Marcelin, attended the opening of one of them.

During the inauguration ceremony, the minister commended Qatar Charity for its impactful interventions in Chad, particularly in addressing the water resource challenges in the capital, N’Djamena. He honoured Qatar Charity, considering it the second international organisation, after UNICEF, in terms of the scale of its interventions in the water and sanitation sector in Chad.

During the same ceremony, the governor of the seventh district within the capital, N’Djamena, said, “This is not the first time Qatar Charity has contributed to solving the water issue in the area. They previously dug a well for a school in the region, and today they are opening another well.” He also thanked Qatar Charity for this assistance, extending gratitude to the Qatari people for their support. He also hoped for more support from them.

Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji, director of the International Programmes and Development Department at Qatar Charity, stated, “At Qatar Charity, we dedicate this recognition to the generous donors in Qatar whose support has enabled Qatar Charity to achieve this advanced position in terms of the impact of its developmental interventions in Chad.

Qatar Charity’s office in Chad, with the support of donors in Qatar, has successfully dug and equipped 200 water wells during the period from 2020 to 2024. The estimated ben-* eficiaries of these wells exceed one million people.

It is worth mentioning that the “Double Ajir” campaign, currently ongoing throughout the second ten days of Ramadan, aims to dig and equip a significant number of wells, as well as provide social housing and mosques at minimal cost. More than one million people are expected to benefit from this initiative across several Asian and African countries.
