“For me, it was hard to be in that space because I am a child who survived the war in former Yugoslavia. The photos and the video recreate memories of exactly the same situation that my people went through. But it is always good to see these things in order to never forget the suffering and to give honour and respect to the people who lost their homes or just wanted a better life for their children. Laundromat is something you must see and to allow yourself to feel it also. I liked it very much because it is so simple, such a direct way to communicate the problem, by only showing cloths, photos and shoes, art displays something that is familiar – all that kind of clothes and shoes we all have, our kids have, so that refuge could have been anyone of us. And I am impressed how Ai wanted to humanize the refugees by taking selfies with them, that is so deep, so natural and such a human act of bravery and love from the artist.”
