Mandisa Morrison

The Star (St. Lucia) - Life Begins 2 Nite - - CONTENTS - By Angelica O’Donoghue-Holder

It’s always exciting to meet someone who thinks outside of the box. Mandisa Morrison, the winner of the prestigious Business Awards Entrepreneur of the Year, is just such a person. She’s been operating her own business three years now, with obvious success. Who better to feature in this week’s Feature Section? 2Nite: What inspired you to get into the cobbler business?

Mandy: I saw the need for the need for it in the north of the island. As an avid shoe lover myself, it was a terrible inconvenience for me to constantly have to head to Castries for shoe repair. To add insult to injury, I often encountered a gross lack of professionalism and adequate resources. Can you just imagine your favorite pair of shoes being riddled with unsightly nails? I decided to quit complaining and do something instead. I created Shoe Rehab was born.

2Nite: What are some of the unique features of your business?

Mandy: I consider myself a Millennial, so my attitude to technology had to be obvious. We have a website that allows patrons to track how repairs are going, receive electronic receipts and so on. We are also big on utilizing social media platforms. I am also the only Saint Lucian who is a part of the Shoe Service Institute of America, an international organization dedicated to the advancement of shoe repair and technology.

2Nite: How has your business expanded in the last three years?

Mandy: I moved from having one employee to six employees at this point, and two convenient branches. I have also opened up a foot spa where trained professionals concentrate on the health and appearance of the feet.

2Nite: What has been your biggest accomplishment in this business?

Mandy: Knowing that my business is adding to the social fabric of society. I provide jobs for six families. Winning the Business Awards this year was, as they say, icing on my cake!

2Nite: How do you balance being a mother and a business owner?

Mandy: It was hard in the beginning. But as my daughter grows older it is getting easier. Already she is developing an interest in the business; we attend international conventions together.
