Jeddah: Mohannad Sharawi A Saudi college plans to launch the first international initiative to promote Holy Qur'an memorization competitions around the world, according to a dean at Dar Al- Hekma college. Suhair Al-qurashi was speaking at the annual honoring celebration for girls who memorized the Holy Qur'an on Tuesday at the college.
Al-qurashi said the college has a plan to design the first application for memorizing the Holy Qur'an called "Taj Al Karama (Crown of Dignity)," which can be used on devices such as iphone, ipad and other smart phones.
She also added that they have completed the phase of collecting all the required information and data of the application and it will be evaluated and approved later on.
“This application will help facilitate the memorizing of the Qur'an and will also contribute to uplifting the competitive spirit among girl students and Qur'an memorizers in general. The ceremony this year saw the graduation of five students who received certificates for memorizing the Holy Qur'an. A number of other girls who have completed memorizing the Holy Qur'an were also honored," Al-qurashi said.
She said the five certified students were also top in terms of academic excellence.
Al-qurashi noted that the Dar Al-qur'an, a special department for Qur'an learning at Dar Al-hekma, has been using electronic applications and modern means which can help in reciting and memorizing the Qur'an and other related subjects such as the Tasfeer (Qur'an exegesis).
