Investors call for streamlining of truck movements in Riyadh

Riyadh: Arab News Some road transport investors yesterday urged the specialized departments to come up with a mechanism that can control the access time for Trucks and oil tankers inside and outside Riyadh.

Participants at a seminar held in Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) expressed their happiness over the announcement by the civil department headquarters that the timings for trucks to get inside and go out of Riyadh had not changed. However, they sought that the timings be regulated by the specialized departments, such as the Civil Defense, Saudi Aramco, the traffic department, municipalities and the Ministry of Transport, to avoid traffic jams, chaos and financial losses.

Colonel Ebrahim Al- Ghamdi of the Civil Defense, confirmed the justification of the investors' demands and said: " The Civil Defense has asked for providing emergency parking space for cars, and the Ministry of Transport in turn asked the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to implement the plan as fast as they can.

Ahmed Al-othman, sales unit chief at Saudi Aramco, explained how the movement of tankers could be made easy inside the city.

"Saudi Aramco has two fuel stations in south Riyadh, on Al-kharj highway," he said, adding that service at fuel stations would ease by next year."

Khalid Al-jarri, Al-jarri company chairman, and Mohammad Al-bashr, Naqel company chairman, in their presentations detailed the time trucks and fuel tankers should get inside and outside the city, specifying exact timings for the tankers to enter and exit the city."

Abdulal Abdulal, Sahl company chairman, and Mahmoud Al-moghrabi, Al-draiyes fuel company chairman, in their presentations explained the mechanism for moving fuel inside and outside the city's fuel stations.

Ali Al-salloum, who heads the transportation committee at RCCI, stressed the importance of continuous contact between all specialized departments to control and specify time for the movement of trucks in general and fuel trucks in particular."
