Mobily subsidiary to cover 800,000 homes with optical fiber

-

Etihad Etisalat’s (Mobily) subsidiary Bayanat Al-oula said it is working to deliver optical fiber services (FTTX) to 250,000 buildings.

The aim is to cover 800,000 residential and commercial units in different parts of the Kingdom by the end of 2016.

Bayant Al- Oula owns the most advanced optical fiber networks in the region.

These networks reach a number of houses and commercial complexes in major cities.

Bayanat said the pace of expansion for these projects is on schedule.

Bayanat Al-oula owns 33 percent of the national optical fiber networks, contributing to raising Mobily’s share up to 66 percent in the largest project of its kind, which extends to a distance of more than 14,000 km, crossing the Kingdom’s regions through seven rings.

Last June, Bayanat Al-oula signed a SR 400 million contract to set up an advanced optical fiber network (FTTX) in the cities.

Mobily COO Abdulaziz Al-tammami, said: “Mobily and Bayant Al-oula’s control over the optical fiber network, in general, will enhance the company’s investments in data services and smart network content services which the company is offering its subscribers; and will ensure additional revenues for the company; in addition to maintaining its leadership in the telecom sector in the field of data and application services.”

Baynat Al-oula is working on completing and accomplishing a number of projects with the real-estate sector and governmental agencies; while at the same time is signing a number of exclusive contracts for the implementation of smart infrastructures for giant projects, alongside connecting companies with their branches via optical fiber.

Mobily’s infrastructure of optical fiber has significantly contributed to the passage of data from the east to the west across the globe via land and sea cables which Mobily had previously signed on with a number of international companies in a number of countries.
