Political unrest in Bangladesh causes exam rescheduling
The ongoing strike due to political crisis back home is directly affecting Bangladesh expatriate students in the Kingdom. Bangladesh community schools that follow the national curriculum of Bangla syllabus in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam also have the same examination schedules.
Bangladesh international schools in the Kingdom have rescheduled Junior School Certificate ( JSC) examinations, initially slated for Sunday, after authorities in Dhaka postponed exams due to countrywide political developments and demonstrations.
Approximately 500 Bangladeshi students in the Kingdom are currently preparing for JSC exams. “The examinations of Junior School Certificate ( JSC) were scheduled to begin across the country on Sunday have been rescheduled the same way they have been back home,” M. Mannan, chairman of Bangladesh International School in Jeddah told Arab News on Friday, adding that the exam has been rescheduled to July 7th.
Mannan said that the total 198 students in Jeddah are being affected with one subject rescheduled. “It is an important exam for secondary level, our children worked hard even during the Haj holidays and other engagements but sudden political developments back home are affecting their examination schedules,” said a parent who wished to remain anonymous. He added that many anxious parents feel their children are once again set to face similar ordeals like that of last year when frequent shutdowns and blockades, enforced in November and December, devastated exam schedules and left the academic calendar in complete disarray.
