Saudi engineers attend Gulf meeting
nization founded in Kuwait in April 1997, and was formerly known as the Gulf Engineering Forum. It consists of regional engineering bodies, including SCE.
The meeting covered the issue and titles for the GEU award, which is to be distributed during the next meeting in Qatar.
The SCE said the meeting was hosted by the Bahrain Society of Engineers and attended by the heads and representatives of the engineering bodies in Gulf coun- tries. The General Secretariat of the GEU was also represented.
The SCE, meanwhile, said that Alshagawi presented a paper on real estate, housing and urban development at the Resta Tex Expo and Forum 2014 held under the auspices of Eastern Province Gov. Prince Saud bin Naif.
In the paper entitled “Positive economic yield through quality of buildings and housing,” Alshagawi confirmed that 85 percent of the electrical materials in the Saudi market are not genuine.
He also pointed out that consumers prefer to buy building materials at low prices, regardless of the quality, which often results in more energy being used by appliances.
He added that 40 percent of construction materials are also counterfeit, meaning that buildings become less safe and could cause significant damage to the homeowner, builders and contractors.
