Buying cars online a dodgy business
The Interior Ministry has warned consumers that they should be wary of buying cars online because of the potential for fraud, particularly if bank accounts are registered overseas.
The ministry had received a notification from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that criminals are using certain websites to steal money from potential buyers, said Maj. Gen. Mohammed Al-Maroul, a spokesman at the Interior Ministry.
Al-Maroul said criminals get buyers to sign fake contracts, and supply bank account details in the names of nonexistent foreign companies. Criminals can open personal or company bank accounts in European Union countries if they are citizens of nations on the continent.
Buyers must check websites first before transferring money to bank accounts. They can also consult officials at Saudi embassies abroad if they need advice, he was quoted as saying in a local publication. NEW YORK: Israel threatened on Wednesday to take all necessary measures after an exchange of fire between Hezbollah militants and Israel that has raised the threat of a full-blown conflict.
Two Israeli soldiers were killed when Hezbollah fired a missile at a convoy of Israeli military vehicles at the Lebanon border.
Israel responded by firing at least 50 artillery shells into Lebanon in a significant escalation along the volatile border. A UN peacekeeper was killed in the flare-up.
The Zionist state’s UN Ambassador Ron Prosor said in a letter to the Security Council and SecretaryGeneral Ban Ki-moon: “Israel will not stand by as Hezbollah targets Israelis.”
In a statement, Hezbollah said its fighters destroyed a number of Israeli vehicles that were carrying Israeli officers and soldiers and caused casualties among “enemy ranks.” The soldiers’ ranks were not immediately known.
Hezbollah said the attack was carried out by a group calling itself the “righteous martyrs of Quneitra,” suggesting it was in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on the Golan Heights on Jan. 18 that killed six Hezbollah militants and an Iranian general.
The Israeli military said there was no indication of any Israeli soldiers captured in Wednesday’s attack.
The Spanish government identified the dead peacekeeper as Cpl. Francisco Javier Soria Toledo, 36.
Netanyahu warned that Israel’s enemies would face a fate similar to Hamas, the rulers of the Gaza Strip who fought a brutal 50-day war against Israel last summer.
