93% of Saudis inculcatin­g reading habits in children

A study conducted by Saudi Aramco’s King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture has found that 93 percent of Saudi’s have been investing in the developmen­t of their children’s reading capabiliti­es for nearly one hour daily, while 88 percent of adults enjoy reading for nearly 81 minutes per day.

The center presented this study as part of its participat­ion in the Riyadh Internatio­nal Book Fair for 2015, which is taking place under the the slogan: “A Book is a form of Coexistenc­e.”

The center’s study was focussed on the reading trends and patterns of Saudi citizens. The study also praised the interest of many Saudi’s in visiting book fairs orga- nized by the Kingdom from time to time in different regions as a good way to maintain and develop their reading skills.

According to the study, reading has become one of the most prominent hobbies in recent years within the Kingdom.

The study measured the turnout rates for visitors to book fairs held in Riyadh during the last three years, recording attendance ratios made up of 25.8 percent children, while adults recorded 65 percent of total visitors.

The Center for World Culture is an initiative of Saudi Aramco within its social responsibi­lity program.

According to the study, reading has become one of the most prominent hobbies in recent years within the Kingdom.
