Orphanage rejects rumors following inmate’s death

- ARAB NEWS

DAMMAM: The social care center for orphans in Al-Ahsa has denied that a female inmate’s death was due to negligence by the center or lack of medical attention.

“Haifa Al-Eisa fell in the washroom when she went to perform ablution for the fajr prayer, and was immediately rushed to hospital,” Riham Al-Sabiha, social supervisor of the center, was quoted as saying by local media on Friday.

She was reacting to rumors on social media that the inmate died due to a lack of attention by the social center, medical negligence and shortage of blood in the hospital where she was admitted.

Al- Sabiha said that Haifa had been admitted to the orphanage recently. “We took special care of her because of her health condition. I was with her since the time she was admitted to hospital.”

Elaborating on the incident, the supervisor said the girl slept in the wardens’ room of her own volition. She got up for Fajr prayer and when she entered the washroom, she fell. “We called an ambulance and medics told us that she had breathing problems.”

The supervisor said that she was taken to hospital, where efforts were made to revive her heart. The heart beat was very low and she was put on the ventilator. An X-ray scan showed clotting due to damage to the lever because of the fall in the washroom.

According to the supervisor, a surgery was performed on the inmate, but her heart stopped dur- ing the process for 16 minutes. She recovered again. Around 6:30pm on Monday, her heart stopped and she died.

Al-Sabiha said that a number of donors, including doctors and she herself, gave blood to save the inmate’s life.

Around 3,000 people from the area took part in her last journey toward the Al-Salehiyah graveyard. The Al-Birr Association of Al-Ahsa organized her funeral.
