Intellectual battle

Arab News - - OPINION -

It is very important for the GCC countries to devise a comprehensive strategy to fight terrorism and extremism. Indeed, terrorism and extremism pose a huge threat to the entire world but the GCC countries are at a much greater risk. This part of the world needs concerted efforts to counter this threat. This is a war that cannot be won only by using force. There is a need for waging an intellectual war to challenge this deviant ideology that is spreading like cancer in Muslim societies.

All Muslim countries should form boards of prominent religious scholars to chalk out a plan to expose the ugly face of this ideology wearing the mask of Islam and wreaking havoc on the Muslim world. Fortunately, the GCC countries are resourceful enough to earmark funds in this regard. We need a major offensive.

In addition to that, efforts should be made to take action against all terrorist and extremist groups without any discrimination. It is our responsibility to help our respective governments fight terrorism effectively. These terrorist organizations have nothing to do with Islam. As a matter of fact, these groups are distorting the image of our otherwise beautiful religion.
