- ARAB NEWS

JEDDAH: Benj Espinosa and Malou Nidoy were the men’s and ladies’ champions to lead the new set of winners for May in the OFBC (Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club) Monthly Tournament at the Iceland Bowling Center here.

It was a close fight in both divisions.

Espinosa won via the high and low tiebreaker over Hadi Pacheco after both players tied on 916 total after five games.

Nidoy like Espinosa captured her first victory in the monthly series, edging out Hercie Bosito by one pin 868 to 867.

Espinosa, a Class C bowler with 18 handicap per game, shot scratch games of 157, 156, 178, 158 and 177, while the Class B Pacheco with 12 handicap had lines of 164, 181, 149, 180 and 180.

In third place was another Class B bowler, Ed Cordova, who returned 912 (148, 188, 159, 188 and 169). Class B Lito Zamudio rounded out the podium winners on 850 (179, 194, 103, 159 and 155).

Nidoy carded games of 177, 132, 147, 174 and 118. Bosito put together games of 103, 151, 142, 133 and 118 to finish way ahead of April champion and back-toback ladies winner Carmen Duma in third place.

Duma totaled 823 pinfalls on rounds of 139, 114, 131, 101 and 168.

Vangie Lim took the fourth position on 796 (105, 155, 126, 130 and 110).

The winners received cash prizes during the awards ceremony in the OFBC’s fifth monthly event.

Under the tournament format, bowlers play five-game series with handicap sudden death with the top four in each division to receive cash prizes. In case of ties, the high and low rule will be applied to break the deadlock.

The Bowler of the Year finals in December have been expanded to include not only the monthly winners but those from the wildcard phase and the seeded qualifiers as well.
