Malou Nidoy hits treble, Bulalayao in breakthrou­gh win at OFBC monthly tourney

JEDDAH: Malou Nidoy became the first bowler to win three times while Rico Bulalayao scored his breakthrou­gh victory during the July edition of the Overseas Filipino Bowlers Club (OFBC) monthly tournament at the Iceland Bowling Center here.

Nidoy rode a pair of 187s to an emphatic victory in the ladies’ division while registerin­g the first treble in the series that will culminate in the Bowler of the Year finals in December. She also won in January and May.

Nidoy totaled a five-game series with handicap of 892. She opened the day’s proceeding­s with 187 and followed this big game with rounds of 117, 187, 140 and 141.

Nidoy won by 50 pins from Carol Rio who settled for first runner-up on 842 on lines of 125, 159, 118, 108 and 112.

Beginning bowler Rose Due Agustin was second runner-up on 828 (115, 96, 131, 112 and 124) while back-to-back winner Carmen Duma finished third runner-up on 823 (117, 120, 163, 123 and 130).

Bulalayao also enjoyed a fast start en route to an easy win in the men’s division, shooting a fivegame series of 955. Bulalayao carded games of 181, 185, 158, 192 and 149.

Sergio Modar, the January winner, was first runner-up on 911 (150, 144, 123, 178 and 196). Veteran bowler Hadi Pacheco compiled 874 in second runner-up position on games of 154, 168, 154, 168 and 170 while Bonnie Maelom rounded out the first four winners on 867 (151, 127, 171, 118 and 180).

The winners received cash prizes during the awards ceremony in the OFBC’s seventh monthly event.

Under the tournament format, bowlers play five-game series with handicap sudden death with the top four in each division to receive cash prizes. In case of ties, the high and low rule will be applied to break the deadlock.

The Bowler of the Year finals in December have been expanded to include not only the monthly winners but those from the wildcard phase and the seeded qualifiers as well.
