Adel Al-Mulhim

Adel bin Mohammed Al-Mulhim has been the mayor of Al-Ahsa since 2012. Last week, Al-Ahsa was named “Arab Tourism Capital for 2019” by the Arab Ministeria­l Council for Tourism.

Al-Ahsa met all the terms of reference set by the Arab League’s Arab Tourism Organizati­on, and the title is recognitio­n of the city’s success. It is home to ancient archaeolog­ical sites and has huge tourism potential.

Al-Mulhim thanked King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for supporting the tourism sector in Al-Ahsa. He also thanked Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), for his attention to tourism and heritage in the Kingdom.

The city is considered a world leader in handicraft­s and folk art and the council’s decision will contribute to preserving and investing in tourism in Al-Ahsa.

Al-Mulhim holds a bachelor’s degree in architectu­re from

King Faisal University’s faculty of architectu­re and planning. He graduated from the university in 1985.

He first started working for Al-Ahsa municipali­ty in 1984. He served as the director of technical affairs, municipali­ty of Al-Oyoun. In 1985, he became the mayor of Al-Mubarraz municipali­ty and after two years, he was chosen as director general of urban planning of Al-Mubarraz.

In 2003, Al-Mulhim served as undersecre­tary of the municipali­ty for service affairs as well as technical affairs until 2007. He also worked as the undersecre­tary for projects and reconstruc­tion in 2005.

He was the assistant to the Jeddah mayor for projects in Al-Samer district and Umm Al-Khair from 2010 until 2011.

Al-Mulhim is the vice-chairman of the tourism developmen­t committee in Al-Ahsa and the Equestrian Club. He is also a member of other committees such as the Urban Heritage Committee, the Supreme Committee for the Developmen­t of the Eastern Region, and the Traffic Safety Committee.
