#WorldPostDay
YOU'VE GOT MAIL
Today is World Post Day, which celebrates the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) as well as helping postal services around the globe to introduce or promote new products and services.
The union was founded 145 years ago in Switzerland and is the UN’s specialized agency for the postal sector. Oct. 9 was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo in 1969. @IOMstampscoins tweeted: “Did you know? The king’s letters, the royal mail, were carried by a special messenger who wore a bright red uniform. In 1635, Charles I opened up his ‘royal mail’ for use by the public #Worldpostday #50yearsworldpostday.” @wiredtoteach said: “Best wishes to all postmen and postwomen around the world for their hard work in delivering precious moments shared by all people we care about.”
