American actor Cameron Douglas was trending on Google as he discussed his upcoming book, “Long Way Home,” in which he writes about his dark past.

Cameron comes from a line of great US acting talent: His father is Michael Douglas, and his grandfather is Kirk Douglas, who was married to Bermudan actress Diana Dill. Forty-year-old Cameron’s issues began at the age of seven, he says, when he found out that his father was cheating on his mother. He also writes about the pressure of keeping up with the accomplishments of his family.

By the age of 13, he was regularly using marijuana, and by the time he was 26, he had been hooked on crystal meth and liquid cocaine, among other addictions. He has also spent seven years in jail for possession of heroin with intent to distribute.

Michael Douglas publicly admitted at the time of Cameron’s sentence in 2010 that he had been “a bad father,” but that he hoped prison could be “a chance to start a new life” for his son. Cameron says that his life began to turn around when he learned that Michael had been diagnosed with stage four throat cancer.
