More than 1,200 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in KSA

Nearly 55 percent have so far received at least one dose of vaccine

Saudi authoritie­s on Wednesday recorded 1,207 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 496,516. The Ministry of Health also reported that a further 14 patients have died as a result of conditions related to the disease, bringing the total number of deaths in the Kingdom to 7,921.

Of the confirmed cases, 11,952 remain active, two fewer than the previous day, and 1,379 patients are in critical condition, an increase of 16 in the past 24 hours.

The highest number of the new cases are in Riyadh, with 307, followed by the Eastern Province, with 264, Makkah with 222, and Asir with 184. Qassim and Jouf each recorded six new cases.

The ministry said an additional 1,195 patients have recovered from COVID-19. This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 476,643, a recovery rate of 96.1 percent.

More than 19 million doses of the coronaviru­s vaccine have been administer­ed at 587 vaccinatio­n centers set up by the government across the Kingdom, a rate of 54.6 doses per 100 people. More than 54.5 percent of the Kingdom’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, and the number receiving a second dose is expected to rise in the coming days as a result of increased appointmen­t availabili­ty for people in the 40-plus and 30-plus age groups.

The ministry on Wednesday reiterated the importance of continuing to adhere to precaution­ary measures and following official guidelines.

It added that between June 27 and July 4, Madinah Health Affairs carried out a total of 446 inspection­s — of 105 hospitals, 93 medical centers and 248 pharmacies — to ensure compliance with precaution­s to prevent the spread of the virus.
