Valerie Bertinelli

- Ameera Abid

American actress

Valerie Bertinelli posted a video on Instagram responding to a comment about her weight.

“Because I don’t have a scale, I don’t have clothes that I am trying to put on every day and I don’t have mirrors so I don’t see what has become of me,” she said in the clip. “So I needed that help to make me look like I needed to lose weight.”

The actress became teary-eyed while calling out the commenter, saying that they were not being helpful and that when you see that someone has put on weight, they are obviously going through difficulties, adding that if she could lose the weight, she would.

“I haven’t been successful with it during my whole entire life, at 61 I am still dealing with it. You think I am not tired? Where is the compassion?”

In the caption of the video, she wrote: “Arent (sic) we tired of body shaming women yet?! Smh. I was going to delete my stories because it’s a little embarrassing and scary to be so vulnerable. But then I realized it was hitting a ‘good’ nerve with so many of you who were so sweet to dm and share your same vulnerability and struggles.

“We all could use a little more kindness and patience and grace because we just never know what someone else is going through. So here it is. Not deleting. Owning it.”

People flooded the comments to offer support.

@melissapeterman tweeted: “You are beautiful. And I have come to the conclusion that people who make these kinds of mean comments that lack compassion the most because they are broken and unhappy and that is a horrible way to exist. I love you.”

@michellebranch said: “You’re so beautiful and such an inspiration. I’ve been receiving end of comments like these so many times. Hell, half my life! It hurts. Thank you for being vulnerable and authentic and always leading with such a heart.”
