Municipality’s cleaning campaign continues in Jeddah

A cleaning plan introduced by Jeddah municipality in response to the pandemic is continuing during the Eid holiday, authorities said on Tuesday. Efforts have been stepped up to clean, disinfect and sanitize public spaces and streets in neighborhoods and waterfront areas, in line with official guidelines and precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The plan, which was launched on June 11, aims to ensure outdoor prayer spaces are kept clean; waste is cleared from places where animals are slaughtered; public parks and gardens and the corniche are cleaned; and malls, restaurants and parking lots are sanitized.

The municipality said it has assigned about 6,876 workers and supervisors, and established a permanent operations center. Staff are working around the clock during Hajj season to monitor the work being carried out and address any emergencies.

Saeed Al-Ghamidi, director of the municipality’s hygiene department, said that in addition to the teams working in the field, fully equipped mobile units are also on standby to respond to any emergencies and help maintain the round-the-clock service.
