Tom Cruise

A family in the English countryside enjoyed a “surreal” experience after an American moviestar unexpectedly landed a helicopter in their Warwickshire garden.

Three-time Golden Globe winner Tom Cruise, who was traveling by helicopter, was running late for a meeting after Coventry Airport was temporarily shut down, according to BBC News. The pilot found a nearby field owned by Alison Webb so Cruise decided to improvise.

Webb and her family were told their field was needed for an unnamed “VIP who was running late,” and to their surprise, the “Top Gun: Maverick” star stepped out of the chopper.

“I thought it would be kind of cool for the kids to see the helicopter land in the garden,” Webb said. “He (Cruise) basically arrived and got out and it was like, ‘Wow’.”

Cruise exited the helicopter, walked directly to Webb’s children and greeted them with an elbow bump. He thanked the family and then invited them to take a ride in the helicopter while he attended the meeting.

“It turned out to be an incredible day,” Webb said. “It was surreal. I still cannot believe it happened.”

The 59-year-old Cruise has spent the past month in Europe working on the latest “Mission: Impossible” production, which was shut down in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed filming in September 2020 in Italy and then was moved to London three months later. According to Variety, the seventh “Mission: Impossible” movie, which also stars Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Vanessa Kirby, Rebecca Ferguson, and Henry Czerny, was set to debut in November but the premiere has been pushed back to May 27, 2022.
