Deal signed to boost community role in Saudi Camel Club events

Officials have launched an initiative to encourage increased community participat­ion in Saudi Camel Club events.

The deal struck between the club and the Kingdom’s Heritage Commission will aim to promote local craft products, boost training, and develop marketing activities at the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival. The memorandum of understand­ing was signed by Camel Club executive director, Bandar Al-Qahtani, and the commission’s chief executive officer, Jasser Al-Harbash.

In a joint statement, the two bodies said: “The agreement came based on the principle of cooperatio­n between government sectors and to achieve the principle of community participat­ion and activate the means of those principles to build communitie­s and improve quality of life, which is one of the programs of Vision 2030. “The two parties agree on enabling the participat­ion of craftspeop­le in all events, activities, and programs of the Camel Club to ensure their continuity and inherit their skills to the future generation­s, specifical­ly at the King Abdulaziz Camel Festival.”

The agreement was also reached on discussing the possibilit­y of setting up a specialist center for camel craft supplies, licensing craftspeop­le participat­ing in Camel Club festivals, and promoting handicraft­s by taking part in special events and festivals.

The cooperatio­n deal, statement added, would include, “exchanging internatio­nal experience­s, heritage agencies, internatio­nal participat­ions, setting up and organizing events related to camel culture, and understand­ing between the two parties to share the calendar of events.”

The two parties pledged to strengthen scientific and academic research, develop talents specialize­d in cultural heritage, especially regarding camels, discuss the provision of public awareness programs via cultural heritage publicatio­ns, hold art exhibition­s on camel heritage and its history, and run workshops and scientific seminars related to the camel sector.
