Green Falcons resume preparatio­ns for next game against Poland

The Saudi national team on Wednesday resumed preparatio­ns for their game against Poland on Saturday in the second round of the group stage of the FIFA World Cup.

Manager and technical director, Herve Renard, said he was satisfied with a recovery session held at the Green Falcons’ headquarte­rs in Qatar.

Midfielder Riyadh Sharahili took part in training under the close watch of medical staff, but tests showed that Salman Al-Faraj had suffered a shin injury.

The Saudi squad held a training session on Thursday, at the Sealine Resort Stadium, which was open to the media for the first 15 minutes.

Renard arranged a separate training session for players not involved in the team’s opening match against Argentina, which the Saudis won 2-1.

Yasser Al-Shahrani undergoes successful surgery

Doctors in Riyadh have successful­ly operated on Saudi footballer Yasser Al-Shahrani after he sustained serious injuries during Kingdom’s historic match against Argentina at the World Cup in Qatar.

Al-Shahrani was airlifted from Doha’s Hamad Medical City to Riyadh on Wednesday morning for treatment after he was involved in a horrific collision with Green

He suffered a fractured jaw and to the left of his face. He was also suffering internal bleeding that needed rapid surgical interventi­on.

The operation took place in the National Guard Hospital at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh where he is recovering, according to an official statement released by the Saudi national team.

“(Al-Shahrani) underwent a successful surgery on his pancreatic gland on Wednesday afternoon,” read the Green Falcons’ statement on the defender’s medical progress.

“We wish him a speedy recovery.”
