Oman forum tackles sustainable economic diversification
The 9th Oman Energy ESG Forum, held only a few days after the conclusion of the UN climate conference in Egypt (COP27), convened 250 executives and officials, from a diverse range of sectors, including energy, aviation, automobile, agriculture, academia, free zones and logistics. Through 18 sessions with more than 40 speakers, the event sought to answer the critical question: “How to power sustainable economic diversification in Oman?” Workshops at the forum, held in Muscat on Nov. 22, spotlighted Oman’s roadmap to achieve net-zero by its mid-century target date and the role of environmental, social and governance in achieving sustainable economic diversification in the country.
Oman, which has the longest Indian Ocean coastline within the GCC with many opportunities for wind energy, will invest more than $190 billion by 2050 into the country’s energy transition and decarbonization projects to alleviate the negative effects of climate change, Oman’s ambassador to Egypt told the COP27 conference last week.
