Tina Turner
Legendary rock ’n’ roll singer Tina Turner has passed away at the age of 83 after a long battle with cancer. The heartbreaking news was reported in a statement released by her publicist, who said that Turner died on Wednesday “in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
Turner’s health deteriorated in the past years. She was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017.
Turner initially garnered popularity performing with her first husband,
Ike Turner, and the duo was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. Once she started her solo career, she skyrocketed to stardom and was inducted for a second time into the museum, in 2021. She was a constant fixture on the pop and R&B charts in the US. Celebrities and public figures paid tribute to Turner, including Nancy Sinatra, who tweeted: “There will never be another like Tina Turner. The voice, the legs, the energy — unmatched. My heart goes out to her family and all who loved her. You were able to overcome the worst of life and create the best of life. You were, and you are simply the best.” Former President Barak Obama tweeted: “Tina
Turner was raw. She was powerful.
She was unstoppable. And she was unapologetically herself — speaking and singing her truth through joy and pain; triumph and tragedy. Today we join fans around the world in honoring the Queen of Rock and Roll, and a star whose light will never fade.”
Singer Christina Aguilera tweeted: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of Tina Turner. Her powerful voice and strength will forever be etched in our hearts and memories. She paved the way for so many of us in the music industry and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
